A remedy acting mainly on throat, liver, rectum and back and has plethora of concomitants within each of these affected regions with each other.

  • Gloomy, easily angered (composure attained slowly only later)
  • Miserably cross
  • Body feels sore on getting up in the morning
  • Congestion and fullness everywhere
    • Heart, lung, brain, pelvis, stomach etc
    • Venous congestion
  • Mucous membranes raw, hot and dry
  • Haemorrhoids
    • Non bleeding, painful
    • Haemorrhoids in climacteric years
    • With cough (concomitant)
    • With heart complaints (concomitant)
  • Pain in rectum for hours after stools (ALOE, IGNATIA, MURIATIC ACID, SULPH)
  • Coryza, thin, acrid
  • Throat
    • Scrapy
    • Prominent veins
    • Sensitive to inhaled cold air
    • Follicular pharyngitis, pricking, constricted (APIS, BELL), inclined to swallow
      • Liver troubles with (concomitant)

    • With prolapsed uterus, acrid leucorrhoea (concomitant)
    • Great prostration with backache, < walking
    • Pregnancy during (concomitant)

  • Liver
    • Congested, portal congestion
    • Jaundice
  • Sore legs and extremities
  • Rectum
    • Feels dry, as if full of sticks
    • Pains shooting up the rectum (IGNATIA, SULPHUR)
    • Sore and itchy anus (SULPH)
    • Dry hard constipation with backache (concomitant)
    • Sensation of bugs crawling in anus (SULPH)
  • Severe pain in stomach 3 hours after eating

(Think of this remedy in a person where you find rectal, liver and throat complaints occurring with each other. Backache is also a prominent concomitant. The patient is prostrated, fatigued. Has chronic constipation generally, and is cross and easily angered. He is irritable after getting up in the morning like LYCO. When you think of NUX VOM or SULPH also think of this remedy. It comes close to COLLINSONIA in its rectal complaints.)

RATANHIA- a snapshot

  • Suited to females who are dark scrawny and irritable.
    • They are delicate and nervous
    • And have never been able to carry the pregnancies to term

Sticks sticking like pain- AESCULUS HIP

Splinter like pains- NITRIC ACID)

  • Stools burn when thin, also foetid
  • Constipation, hard stool with great straining
    • Headache when straining for stools (concomitant)
  • Fissures (like PEONIA which also has oozing with ulceration of rectal mucosa)
    • In anus
    • In nipples, cracks, in nursing women (GRAPH, SEP, EUPATORIUM AROM)
  • Toothaches during pregnancy (CHAMOMILA, LYSSINUM, NUX MOS, PULS, RAPHANUS, SEPIA, STAPH), become restless and have to get up and walk about from pain and are aggravated for hours after stools. When you think of aesculus hip, think of this remedy.

    • Eyes feel distended sp in artificial light

    • Paresis of left side of face
    • Weariness in lower limbs
  • Headache going into eyes > cool air (PULS)

(Think of a person easily roused to anger, who is having scrapy throat, severe cough tenacious mucus but wants to walk in cool open air. He has some eye troubles as well and keeps bending back to see properly. Worried about his health, his chest is sore on coughing (you might think of BRYONIA, NAT SULPH, ARS). The mucus is tenacious and does not come out easily. He is probably chubby or even a blue bloater.)
