Materia medica/ knowledge of medicinal powers

I aim to write about the medicines here as given in Materia Medica s, but would confine myself to only bite-size indications. Occasionally do I plan to provide a full meal😊. Most of what I would be posting here would be practical points that can be used in day-to-day practice.
How to perceive a patient’s symptoms and understand them in light of the language of Materia medica is what I plan to present. It will not be something out of the extraordinary but would be of importance, which is sometimes missed in the sea of symptoms in each medicine. I personally am very fond of a few authors and have been trying to follow them. They are Boenninghausen, Boger, Lippe, Pulford, Guernsey, Hering, Allen, Phatak, and the fountainhead Dr. Hahnemann, and most of what I plan to write would be from these. I would also try to give a reference for what I write. I still find myself learning every day and discovering new things; once a student always a student. I however wish to reduce this struggle for others.
Occasionally I will be sharing the drug picture for better understanding.

  • Fright
  • Pains- spasmodic/ crampy. Pains make her nervous- she cannot keep still.
    • pains before periods. In calves.
    • pains during pregnancy.
  • Profuse urination as concomitant with complaints- with menses/ haemorrhage/ headache etc.
  • Menses with flatulency/ eructation.
  • Prevents miscarriage
  • Tettery spots on cheeks and arms etc.

  • Uric acid diathesis.
  • Renal colic with wringing of hands, crying and moaning from pain.
  • Rt sided renal colic and vomiting, red sand in urine.
  • Itching of genitilia.
  • Sensitive nipples and swollen mammae.
  • Prolapse vagina.
  • Fever with bronchial congestion and gastric disturbance.
  • Dreams of relatives. Dreams of being poisoned.

RHEUM

Materia medica/ knowledge of medicinal powers
  • Sourness everywhere- temperament/ stool/ sweat/ diarrhoea.
  • Bubbling sensation in various parts
  • Wet hair from sweat- sopping hair
  • Dentition troubles
  • Cross/ irritable/ difficult to satisfy
  • < unripe fruit/ night, > uncovering

(Think of a small child who is teething. Nothing pleases the child, there’s constant crying and marked irritability.  The mother tries to soothe her and runs her fingers in the head and finds it wet. The child smells sour. Everything is sour-smelling- sweat/ diarrhoea etc. The only thing the child likes is being covered and nothing else. Give rheum.)
